Running diary

I haven't been very good about documenting my daily runs during the past few weeks. I MUST improve on that. So here's a quick run down: I've been doing most of the work (weeks 1-5 on the treadmill). I think that I really need to move to the road because A) I won't be running the race on a tready and B) it's aggravating my knees. It comes and goes so I really don't think that I have any injury just aggravation:

August
August 2
- Four miles - I did this at the gym whilst watching Shark Week. It was a slow run and took me forever to warm-up.
August 5
- Four miles - I ran this outside without walk breaks. It was hot but it felt better than the treadmill run.
August 6
- 10 miler on SSI with Ash. We started at around 5 a.m. to beat the heat. It was long (1 hr. 55 mins.) but we did well. I felt good most of the time.
August 9
 - Four miles - This was done at Jim's gym on the new treadmill. There was an enormous guy running next to me and slinging sweat everywhere. I made it my personal vendetta goal to run faster and farther than him. That'll teach him to sling his sweat on me.
August 11
- Eight miles - Oy. I did this on a treadmill at Anytime ... or as it reads now "Gym Open ... Fitness." Warm-up to cool down took about 1 hour 30 mins. I wasn't feeling well - sniffly and all. But I got it done, thanks to a Keeping Up with the Kardasian Marathon.
** Missed the second 4-miler - due to traveling - whomp whomp.
August 16
- Four miles - Another uneventful four miler at Jim's gym. I had some pain in my knees and feet. Nothing severe. They just didn't wanna do it.
August 18
- Four miles - I did this one in the early evening - 7:30 p.m. - around my neighborhood. The temp wasn't that bad. It was actually enjoyable. Enjoyable for August anyway. I felt like I was moving quickly and my body felt good. Nice run!
August 20
- 12 miles - Ash and I were joined by her BF Julio who's training for the half marathon. We headed out super early - around 5:30 a.m. And we finished up in about 2 hours. It took a little longer. We had to make a stop but it was a GREAT run for me. One of the best I've had.
August 23
- Four miles - As good as Saturday's long run was ... this one was the complete opposite - it was bad. I ran outside around 6 a.m. this Tuesday. It was hot. My body was stiff and unhappy. But thankfully it was over before too long.
August 25
- Four miles - I had to squeeze this one in on the treadmill. It was at the old Anytime Fitness now just ... Fitness. It's under renovation and there was hammering, pounding, plus paint fumes. Bad. But the Kardashians got me through.
August 27
- 10 miles - Another early long run. This one was crazy though. We parked at Coastal Kitchen and were sitting in the car getting ready to start when a black cat jumped on the car hood and I screamed. So scary. Haha! We started running and heard hoot owls going on along our route. We saw marsh bunnies and a BIG snake laid out along the path. BIG. We nearly died.
Other than that, the run was long, humid, hot and my body wasn't into it. Whomp. I also didn't bring my iPod and I noticed that I do much better when I have some "inspirational" music pumpin.

September
Sept. 2
- 14 miles - My longest distance to date. I was so excited and the weather was MUCH better than it had been. It was seriously 72 degrees when we started. Nice! The only downside - Ash took a spill. Poor thing. There was a crack in the sidewalk and she tumbled. Trooper that she is, she got back up and finished.
*** Missed a 4 miler due to ... travel. Yep. Again.
Sept. 6
- 5 miles - Oh wow... it's amazing the difference between the long, pleasant run of Sept. 2 and the pitiful display of Sept. 6. My legs were pissed. My back was pissed. It was awful. I did run at the gym and thankfully the Kardasians have officially taken over E (seriously, that's the only show they play). Still, I was miserable and I had to keep stopping for one thing or another (phone calls, bathroom breaks, etc.) Terrible.
Sept. 8
- 5.5 miles - This one was OK. Not great. Not terrible. Ash and I met near Coastal Kitchen. We ran out from there to the Village on St. Simons Island. It was fine and I ate sushi afterward. Yay!
Sept.  10
- 10 miles - We paked at Coastal Kitchen then ran two miles down to the Village. Then we did the causeway. Eight miles total - which includes big hills/bridges. I was wearing my old shoes (Saucony) and my shins hurt after it. Otherwise it was fine.
Sept. 13
- 4 miles - I ran this one outside, starting around 5 p.m. It. was. hot. I mean like 80 degrees. No good. But I finished.
Sept. 15
- Five miles - I ran this one outside in my neighborhood (and surrounding areas) but it wasn't nearly as hot. I waiting until later plus I think that the days are getting shorter and cooler. Finally!
I did have some phantom foot pain though. It was gone the next day ... true to phantom form.
Sept. 17
- 16 miles!! OMG I'm SO proud. It was a good run. Just some chaffing issues and a bad Camel Bak. But that wasn't terrible. We ate like two stoned My Little Ponies afterward.
Sept. 20
- 4 miles - Another after work run, but on the treadmill. It wasn't pleasant and I'm hating treadmill runs these days. My legs just never loosen up on them.
Sept. 22
- 5 miles - I ran outside in the early morning. I did three laps and two one mile lap down near Satilla Marsh. Nothing special.
Sept. 24
- 12 miles - These seem so much eaiser now. We parked near Harris Teeter but ran down toward the beach, through the Village and back. It was a pretty good run.
Sept. 27
- 4 miles - Another unfortunate treadmill run, when will I learn?
Sept. 29
- five miles - I ran before work and it was pretty good. I actually moved quickly! Much better than Tuesday.

Oct. 1
- 18 MILES - Overall, this was a great run. Even though we nearly got mauled by an unknown animal. We parked by Pranzo and ran down to Harrison Plantation. Then back. WOW! There was a casualty of the run however - I'm going to be losing my toenail in the coming weeks. Sad.
Oct. 4
- 4 miles - I surprisingly wasn't sore when I ran this one in the morning. It was fine. Nothing really to report.
Oct. 6
- 6 miles - This is where things started to go downhill. It was a tough run. My body was pissed. Apparently, that 18-miler caught back up with me Thursday. So much so that I had to skip the 12-miler Saturday. I was really depressed about it but Ash
Oct. 8
- No run ... so sad.
Oct. 11
- 3 miles (supposed to be 4 miles) - It wasn't bad. It wasn't great.
Oct. 13
- 6 miles - Ran on the tread ... pretty good run! And got to watch a show about Kate and Pippa.
Oct. 15
2-0. I did my 20-mile run Oct. 15. It wasn't great and the last mile SUCKED. That makes me pretty wary of the 26.2. Maybe that was just a bad run? Either way, I was STOKED when it was done.

I was supposed to do a 4, 4, 12 mile run the week of Oct. 17 to 22. I did a few very short runs then decided not to push too hard because I felt like I might injure myself.
